CSC/ECE 778: OPTICAL NETWORKS
This course deals with the operation and design of optical wavelength division multiplexed (WDM) networks. It is an advanced graduate level course that prepares students for research in the area of optical networks. Reading assignments address the latest research developments, technologies, and standardization efforts. Programming projects provide students with the opportunity to study, design, implement, and evaluate state-of-the-art algorithms and protocols for optical networks. Laboratory exercises are designed to familiarize students with the operation, configuration, and management of carrier-grade optical network equipment from Lucent and Nortel Networks.
I first created and offered this course in the Fall 2002 semester.
