Γνωθι Σαυτον (Know thyself)
Ancient Greek aphorism

I joined the Department of Computer Science at North Carolina State University in 1994, and have been a Professor since 2002. Since January 2014, I serve as the Director of Graduate Programs. I was inducted in the NC State University Academy of Outstanding Teachers in 2004. During the 2000-2001 academic year, I spent a sabbatical term at Vitesse Semiconductor, Morrisville, NC, and in May 2000, December 2002, and July 2006 I was an Invited Professor at the Laboratoire de Méthodes Informatiques, University of Evry, France.

My research interests are in the broad field of computer networking -- specifically, optical networks, Internet architectures and protocols, network design and optimization, performance modeling, and scheduling. In 2012, I was elevated to IEEE Fellow for "contributions in algorithms, protocols, and architectures of optical networks."

I co-founded and serve as co-Editor-in-Chief of the Elsevier Optical Switching and Networking (OSN) Journal since 2004. In 2016-17 I serve as Chair of the IEEE Communications Society Distinguished Lecturer Selection Committee, and as the Chair of the Optical Networking Technical Committee (ONTC). I also serve as co-Chair of the Optical Networks and Systems (ONS) Symposium for the IEEE ICC Conference, to be held in Paris, France, in May 2017. As an IEEE Distinguished Lecturer in 2010-2011, I completed four tours in the US, Caribbean, and Sri Lanka.
